LAUZON
CREEK
Situated on Hwy. 538 in Algoma Mills,
Lauzon Creek
has been known for years as one of the best places to
catch smelts in the spring. Many visitors from across
the north travel here to catch their yearly feed. The
creek itself flows from Lake Lauzon into Lake Huron.
As well as the smelts in the spring, there are the
salmon in the fall that travel up the creek to spawn
every year. In recent years the Lauzon Creek, from the
train bridge to the dam, has become a fish sanctuary.
The
large Coho salmon that travel up the clear water can be
an amazing site. In the Township of The North Shore the
salmon can be seen spawning in the Serpent River as well.
