CAUSEWAY PAVILLION
The Causeway is located on Hwy. 538 in Algoma Mills and is adjacent to
Lauzon Creek. Visitors and residents can take advantage of a public boat
launch to Lake Huron as well as plenty of free parking. Access to the North Channel of Lake Huron
provides a great opportunity to
explore the Voyageur route, which was once part of Canada's first highway
system. The Channel's open water is dotted with island clusters inviting
exploration. Outdoor public washrooms and a picnic area are provided at the Causeway. The Causeway
is the site of our yearly Canada Day Celebrations and fireworks.
The Causeway site is a historical landmark for the area. A large dock once
stood there and was used by a few local companies in the late 1800's and early
1900's to transport freight to southern Ontario.
Algoma Mills became the Canadian
Pacific Railway's (CPR's) major coal delivery port for the Algoma District with 200,000 tons of
coal moving across the docks during a single season.
The CPR. was so
active in the area that they purchased land and had plans to construct a 300-room hotel that
unfortunately fell through and was moved to Banff, Alberta and constructed as the
Banff
Springs Hotel.

Interpretive panels at
the Causeway Park relate our history and a locomotive
replica created by a local artist commemorates our past.
